# How to place a test order

Place a test order with a 100% discount code to check that buying a course enrolls the student

Buy your own course with a 100% discount code, so you can watch enrollment happen without paying.

Do this after you change anything about enrollment — a new linked product, a new visibility, a new access window — because those settings only show their effect on a real order.

### 1. Create a 100% discount code

In your Shopify admin, go to **Discounts** and click **Add discount**.

Choose the **Order discount** type.

Set the value to **100%**, and limit the code so it cannot be used by real customers — for example switch on a **maximum of 1 use** and a **minimum purchase requirement**, or restrict it to a customer segment.

### 2. Use the code at checkout

From your storefront, add the course product to the cart and go to checkout. Type the code in the **Discount code** field and click **Apply**.

Finish the order. Shopify has a **Bogus Gateway** for test payments, or you can use a test mode on your payment provider.

### 3. Check that enrollment happened

Open the LDT Online Courses app and go to **Students**. Your buyer should be listed with the course attached.

### Result

The order is free, and the student is enrolled exactly as a paying customer would be — including the access window, the welcome email, and any enrollment tags.

### Troubleshooting

* **No student appears.** Look at the linked product again: enrollment runs when the order is marked as **Paid**, so an unpaid test order does not enroll anyone.
* **You want to remove the test student.** Delete them in **Students**, and delete the test order in Shopify. The discount code can stay for later tests, but keep the use limit on.
* **The discount code was rejected.** A 100% order discount may need the product to be the only item in the cart.
